Vermin

27 May

I’m known for enjoying some-what ‘controversial’ art and fashion and my new love comes with an enormous dose of that. Reid Peppard became the topic of a rather large debate between friends and myself this week.

By all means I can understand that ‘yes it’s slightly bazaar and in some cases quite uncomfortable to look at, but Peppards pieces are in no way inhumane or cruel, or at least no more than wearing leather or eating cheap meat and eggs.

Reid Peppard is a British taxidermist who creates fashion pieces from decaying animals that are generally stamped as vermin.

“When they become sculptural headpieces, necklaces and cuff-links, the specimens cease to be waste and become objects to behold. RP/ENCORE makes use of the city’s leftovers.”

Osman Yousefzada

27 May

So it a warm Friday afternoon (oh what am I saying I’m British, an unbearably, boiling afternoon, I’m not joking I thought the pavements were going to melt) and I’m sat outside the V & A museum waiting to watch the Osman Yousefzada Fashion in Motion show.

The show was held in the Raphael Gallery and after a short wait the lights dimmed and the music started (I know it defeats the point of attending a show but this is always my favourite part) the soundtrack to the show was a mix of haunting, ethnic beats and trills

The show opened with two models (one male one female) enduring a tribal dance wearing beautiful Osman gowns. The result was stunning and set the mood for the rest of the show.

I didn’t notice how impeccable the lighting was until the first model appeared at the head of the runway. I don’t know if it was because I was seated at the foot of the runway that it was so effective or even if it was intentional at all, but whatever it was it was amazing. I felt like a UFO had just landed and through the engine smoke came these beautiful, gangly creatures decked out in gorgeous garments and donning the most incredible shoes EVER!

Coco and Breezy

13 May

So it’s a warm, somewhat dull afternoon, I’m browsing for some sort of inspired idea, I stumble a cross Coco and Breezy. Geez these gurls are cool!

Twins from Minnesota now based in NYC, Pursuing their dream to conquer the fashion industry. They’ve created a range of couture eye wear that are SIICK.

Celebrities such as Amber Rose, Ashanti and Vanessa Simmons have been spotted donning them. They’re for sure to take strong hold in the coming seasons and I can’t wait for them to hit the UK.

Ps. Any PR out there (Id quite like some) *Wink*

Caravan Palace

10 May

Whilst on the hunt for some new tunes yesterday, I came across this fabulous little ditty ‘Jolie Coquine’ by Caravan Palace. Instantly I was hitting up their myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/caravanpalace ) and then buying the album.

Caravan Palace are a French Electro-Swing band based in Paris. The current band line-up consists of 6 members, Sonia Fernandez Velasco, Arnaud Vial, Hugues Payen, Camille Chapelière, Charles Delaporte and Antoine Toustou.

The group first formed in 2005 after three of the band members were hired by a film production company to provide the soundtrack to silent pornographic movies. They then released the self titled album Caravan Palace in 2008. I love them!
